WORK TECHNIQUE

As a porcelain painter, I am concerned mainly with the glaze painting.
The porcelain pieces to be decorated are painted with edges, lines and band decorations, different fonts, monograms, flowers, ornaments or other pictorial motifs. Before it comes to the actual application of paint, the motif is mapped out with a pencil. For painting the motifs I use only high quality metallic-oxide colours in powder form, applied on the surface with turpentine. For better paint capability and brilliance of the colours, essential oils of rosemary and lavender are admixed. With a brush or a feather the design is applied to the porcelain piece. This artistic work requires high concentration and a persistent, steady hand. For gold decoration there is lustre or polish gold. These may include a gold content of up to about 30%. If the subject is finished, the painted porcelain is fired again in a furnace at 800°C. Finally, the gold is polished with an agate or glass fibre pen to reach the typical gold sheen.
